This project helps makers (currently woodworkers) to maximise the use of their materials by developing designs that can be produced from their offcuts.
High quality wood offcuts exist in abundance but require a lot of additional considerations to work with – it can be easier.
Many makers retain their wood offcuts with the ambition to use them but without knowing how they get binned or burnt. By their nature offcuts are awkward to work with but they have an inherent environmental and financial value.
OFFC_T provides data driven categorisation of offcuts. By simply inputting dimensions of offcuts the algorithm calculates which of the product designs that material is most suitable for. These designs have been closely developed with the makers so to integrate within their day to day work and their brand.
OFFC_T helps them reduce their waste, make the most of their materials and reach more customers.
